My name is Henry Hwi and I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors and a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. I completed my Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology and my Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology with a focus in Vocational Rehabilitation from The University of British Columbia (UBC).
My career has been related to teaching, mentorship, and interacting with children and youth in various capacities, from teaching swim and dance lessons, facilitating sex education workshops, to volunteering with the BC Crisis Line. Counselling adults, youth, and families was the next frontier that came naturally to tie everything together. I base my work in attachment theory and work relationally and person-centered, believing willful change can happen through the therapeutic relationship. I incorporate art and play therapy in my session work in addition to traditional talk therapy, but ultimately am led by the unique needs of my client and their life circumstances.
Text can only capture so much of the person behind the words, and so I welcome connecting more directly if you would like to know more about me, how I work, and if this might be a potential fit.
