Neurodiversity-Affirming Therapy for Children and Youth

Every brain is different. Children and parents both deserve support that fits.

Whether your child has been diagnosed with autism, ADHD, or another type of neurodivergence — or you’re simply noticing that they struggle more than other kids with big emotions, friendships, focus, or change — we can help.

At Strong Ties, we offer neurodiversity-affirming therapy that starts with one core belief: there is nothing wrong with your child. Some children think, feel, and experience the world differently — and with the right support, they can build on their strengths, develop new skills, and thrive.

Our registered clinical counsellors work with children and youth across a wide range of needs, adapting every session to suit how each child best communicates, engages, and learns.

We also support parents and caregivers with practical ways to help their children at home and school.

Supporting Neurodiverse Children & Youth

We provide strengths-based therapy for children and youth with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), ADHD, giftedness, sensory processing challenges, and other types of neurodivergence. Our approach is collaborative, compassionate, and always tailored to your child’s unique profile.

Neurodiversity-Affirming Counselling Helps With:

  • Autism spectrum support (ASD counselling for children)

  • ADHD therapy — focus, impulse control, and self-regulation

  • Executive functioning support (planning, organization, task initiation)

  • Giftedness — supporting intensity, perfectionism, asynchronous development, and engagement

  • Sensory processing challenges

  • Social skills development and building peer connections

  • Anxiety and emotional regulation

  • Meltdowns and big emotional responses

  • Self-esteem and identity (including late-identified neurodivergent youth)

  • Navigating school and learning environments

  • Family support — helping parents and caregivers understand and connect

How We Support Neurodiverse Children

You don’t need a diagnosis to ask for help. Many children go through periods where emotions feel too big, friendships feel too hard, or school feels overwhelming, and that’s completely normal. What matters is that they have somewhere safe to work through it.

  • Struggle with emotional regulation or have frequent meltdowns

  • Experience big emotions that feel out of proportion

  • Have difficulty with transitions or unexpected changes

  • Feel anxious, worried, or easily overwhelmed

  • Have trouble making or keeping friends

  • Struggle socially at school

  • Have difficulty focusing or staying on task

  • Experience low self-esteem or confidence

  • Are going through family changes (separation, divorce, moves, new siblings)

  • Have experienced stress, loss, or difficult events

Supporting Your Child Starts With Supporting You

We don’t just work with your child, we support both children and parents.

Together, we help you understand what’s going on, build practical strategies at home, and feel more confident supporting your child and advocating for them at school and beyond.

After Counselling, Watch Your Child:
  • Feel understood and accepted for who they are

  • Build confidence in their strengths

  • Develop strategies for focus, transitions, and emotional regulation

  • Make and maintain friendships more easily

  • Navigate sensory challenges with more tools

  • Communicate their needs more clearly

  • Experience less anxiety at school and home

  • Build a stronger sense of self
